The Future of Parks and Public Space: What’s Next?
Mitchell Silver, Commissioner, New York City Parks
2019 USask Distinguished Visiting Planner
Tuesday, December 3, 7 pm at the Remai Modern (SaskTel Theatre).
Parks and public spaces are vital to the livability of cities. As we urbanize and population demographics shift, parks and public spaces are more important than ever for physical and mental well-being, social interaction, and as the first line of defence against climate change. New York City has embarked on a new strategy to address the future of parks by redefining the role of public space in the 21st century through equity, planning and placemaking.
Mitchell Silver has been elected to Planetizen’s list of 100 Most Influential Urbanists, honoured as one of the top 100 City Innovators by UBM Future Cities, and named an international thought leader of the built environment by Urban Times. Join us for this presentation and discussion with one of the world’s leading urbanists on a topic at the very heart of Saskatoon’s civic identity.
